PCCW/Awaser Consortium
A consortium formed by Awaser Oman LLC (“Awaser”) and PCCW International (HK) Limited (“PCCW International”) has been shortlisted to bid for a license for the installation, operation, maintenance and exploitation of a fixed public telecommunications system (the “License”) in the Sultanate of Oman.

Seeking to own, manage and operate the network, Awaser and PCCW International have already steered the Consortium successfully through a pre-qualification process established by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of the Sultanate of Oman.
Awaser is managed and advised by leading practitioners in the Omani telecommunications industry, while PCCW International is a wholly owned subsidiary of PCCW Limtied, a Hong Kong-based international telecoms operator with significant interests in Middle East nations such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the UAE.
A wealth of fixed-line telecommunications and wireless broadband experience earned by PCCW in Hong Kong and the United Kingdom would be transferred to the Consortium’s Omani workforce if the license bid were successful.
Hong Kong and Oman each have a comparatively small population and the kind of medium-sized telecoms market that represents certain challenges to service provision, such as limited economy of scale. However, PCCW’s experience in research and development and building excellent network infrastructure by working with vendors and other suppliers could make a significant contribution to overcoming such challenges and pave the way to providing innovative and value-for-money services for every type of customer.
In addition, PCCW’s strong track record in training and people development would greatly assist the transfer of knowledge and best practices from both Consortium members to the new workforce, with a view to developing the organization in line with the Sultanate’s Omanization aims.
